Wills and Estates

COWAN & TAYLOR PROFESSIONAL CORPRORATION provides clients with basic estate planning, administration and will drafting for simple to medium sized estates as well as Powers of Attorney for Finance and for Health Care.

Concerns which are addressed in this area of law include:

  1. appointing primary and secondary executors
  2. choosing appropriate guardians for children
  3. legitimately removing assets from the ‘estate pool’ to reduce probate fees
  4. planning funeral arrangements
  5. discussion concerning charitable giving
  6. appointing powers of attorney (not necessarily your closest partner)
  7. providing for loved ones in their lifetime
  8. disposing of assets
  9. specific cash bequests to individuals
  10. providing individual items to people.

Beneficiary List

Often, clients wish to give specific items to individuals when they have passed away. Generally, for non-financial gifts of smaller value (this is a relative term), the solicitor will attach a ‘wish list` which is referenced in the will or of which the executor is fully aware of in terms of its contents.

Powers of Attorney

In Ontario, Powers of Attorney provide for health care decisions and financial management by a trusted and chosen loved one or advisor while a person who is living cannot make those decisions. You can designate as much or as little power as you wish your `Attorney` to have although, understandably, if you are in a position to not make these types of crucial decisions, your time, energy and maximum consideration is necessary.

Estate Administration

COWAN & TAYLOR PROFESSIONAL CORPRORATION provides services for estate administration for clients. Often times, when a loved one passes away, the executor is unable to deal effectively with the settlement of the estate. Our office looks after filings and providing probate services for our clients. The main objective is to make the process as smooth and painless as possible for the executor and the beneficiaries.
